Hi all,
I’m setting up a couple of Aqara presence sensors in an open floor plan (kitchen + living room + dining area). For those of you with similar setups, where did you find the best placement for accurate detection without too many false triggers? Ceiling mount? Corners? Multiple sensors?
Would love to hear what’s worked (or not worked) for you.

@fantinity When setting up Aqara presence sensors in an open floor plan, choosing the right placement is crucial for optimal performance and minimizing false triggers. Based on reference information, here are some tips:
-
Ceiling Mounting: This option is recommended for areas where you want broader coverage, especially to detect movements in a stationary or lying down position. When installed on a ceiling with a height of around 2.8 meters, the detection area can cover a circle with a radius of approximately 4 meters, providing up to 50 m² of coverage.
-
Corner Mounting: This setup is ideal for eliminating dead zones caused by sensor angle limitations. It provides a wide detection range suitable for detecting movements in a sitting or moving position. The corner-mounted approach also allows for more comprehensive zone detection automations.
-
Multiple Sensors: In an open floor plan, using multiple sensors can help cover different zones effectively. You might consider combining ceiling-mounted and corner-mounted sensors to enhance coverage and improve detection accuracy.
To further enhance detection accuracy and avoid false alarms, make sure to configure settings such as interference sources, entrances, and exits. This setup helps the sensors distinguish between actual movement and environmental factors like curtains or fans.
Feel free to share your experiences or any further questions! It’s always great to learn from how others are optimizing their setups.

In order to get the coverage I needed I mounted it up high (3/4) of the wall. this allowed me to have coverage in the breakfast nook, kitchen, living room, edge of the dining room and hallway. I could probably add a second one for better strengthening and coverage. But it’s covering a sizable space as is. Very commendable.
