Beyond Basics: Advanced Automation Ideas for Aqara Enthusiasts

Hey everyone!

So I’ve been messing around with my Aqara setup a bit more lately and figured I’d share a few “beyond basics” automations that have made my life easier (and kinda fun too!). I’d love to hear your ideas too — always looking to level up.

One thing I recently did: paired the door & window sensors with a scene using a combination of presence sensors and time of day. Basically, if the bedroom window is opened between 10 PM and 6 AM while we’re asleep, the lights flash red and I get a notification — figured this would be a cool intruder alert but also helpful if a window didn’t close properly.

Another one I’m testing: using the vibration sensor under the couch cushion. When it detects pressure in the evening and the TV is off, it automatically dims the lights and powers on the entertainment system. It’s my “lazy movie mode trigger.” Works surprisingly well!

Also tried chaining my humidity sensor with the exhaust fan using an automation — super handy for post-shower fog.

Anyone else doing cool stuff that goes beyond the basic on/off or motion triggers? I’m curious how creative people are getting with this setup. Let’s swap ideas!

@DoorBellDude Hey there!

Thanks for sharing your creative automation ideas! It’s wonderful to see how you’re utilizing Aqara devices to enhance your daily life. Your “intruder alert” setup with the door and window sensors is a clever way to ensure home security, especially during the night hours. Pairing presence sensors with time conditions is a smart move.

The “lazy movie mode trigger” using a vibration sensor is another innovative approach. Transforming your living room into an entertainment hub with just a sit-down sounds like a lot of fun!

Using a humidity sensor to control the exhaust fan for post-shower fog is practical and efficient. It’s these kinds of automations that make smart homes truly smart by integrating seamlessly into our routines.

While your ideas are already quite advanced, exploring further possibilities with Aqara’s automation features might spark even more creativity. For instance, the Aqara Panel Hub S1 Plus EU can create relaxing environments or enhance security with real-time alerts, which could be another layer to your smart home setup.

Keep experimenting and sharing your experiences. It’s always inspiring to see the community’s creativity in action! Looking forward to hearing more from others who are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with Aqara. Let’s keep the ideas flowing!
