Hi everyone, I hope you’re all having a great day! I wanted to share my incredible journey of building a smart home in the middle of a rainforest. It’s been an exciting challenge, and I’d love to hear your thoughts and tips! My partner and I have been living in the rainforest for the past three years, volunteering at a beautiful place called Finca Bellavista. We’ve been designing our dream home, which is completely off-grid and designed to never cost us money. It’s a blend of modern technology and jungle living - outside is paradise, and inside is techy and comfortable. We’re using the ISY994iz as our hub, which works offline, perfect for our situation. The MobiLinc app has been fantastic for controlling our INSTEON products via a standard router. We’re planning to install these products during construction, meaning they’ll be hardwired into the mains. One thing I’m still figuring out is how to pick up the WiFi without an Ethernet cable. From what I’ve read, it seems possible, but I’m not sure if this limits anything like camera usage over the local network. Does anyone know if this affects push notifications or online access? We’re also looking into cameras for wildlife monitoring (night vision would be amazing) and door sensors. I’ve come across these blinds - Move Motorize Blinds - but I’m still researching. If anyone has experience with similar setups or tips, I’d love to hear them! We’re about to start construction and are aiming to finish in four months. It’s such an exciting time, and I can’t wait to see how everything comes together. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your feedback and suggestions! Pura Vida! ![]()
