Cannot add Camera E1 to Aqara Home app (standalone or via HomeKit)

I just purchased my first Aqara product, a Camera E1.

Using an iPhone I successfully added the camera to Apple’s HomeKit app. I can see the image streaming to the phone which is great.

However when I try to add the same camera to Aqara’s Home app, it keeps failing.

Under “Add Accessory” the app automatically detects the camera and lists it at the top, then I proceed by scanning the Aqara QR code on the back. After a couple of seconds of trying to connect it fails with a “Binding Failed (Code: 10010)” error.

I also tried to add it via Profile → Connect to Ecosystems → Apple Home → HomeKit Devices.
The camera appears listed, but when I tap to “Bind” it, it gives another error:

This time it mentions a Hub. I do not have any hub, neither Aqara’s nor Apple’s. Could this be the problem?

I temporarily disabled 5 GHz WiFi on my network, so both the phone and camera are connected via 2.4 Ghz Wifi. The SSID and password also do not have any symbols (which I saw mentioned could cause problems).

Anyone has any idea what could be the problem?

An update on this. I read somewhere that the region selected on the app could have an impact. I am based in Hong Kong, but bought the camera from mainland China.

Sure enough, changing my region to mainland China on the app, allowed it to connect via the Connect to Ecosystems → Apple Home → HomeKit route. (Direct connection still did not work)

Now my question is, how can I change the region of the camera so that it connects to a server within my region?

This may be related to your router’s frequency band selection strategy, as E1 only supports 2.4G. You can try to set the SSID separately for the 2.4G and 5G bands. I hope this can help you

Is it convenient to provide your AquaraHome account or device ID? :grinning:

I use a WiFi controller for all my APs, so I could even create a dedicated 2.4GHz SSID for the camera. But as I mentioned, that problem has been solved. I can already connect to it via the Aqara Home app.

The problem was the region mismatch. Now my question is how do I change region from China (Mainland) to China (Hong Kong)?
