Cannot get my M2 hub (CN version) connected to anything

I bought the CN version of the M2 hub because it’s PoE. First I see that it only has a Homekit QR code, not an Aqara one. I set it up with wired ethernet, it gets an IP, it’s pingable. My phone and other devices (eg homekit hub) are all on the same network segment both wired and wireless.

I tried to add to the Aqara app. It’s not discovered automatically. When I select M2 Hub it goes straight to the screen to add to Homekit, not to Aqara. I tried a few ways, cannot.

So I tried adding it to Homekit. The pairing always fails somewhere during “Setting up”. The M2 says something, but what it says is in Chinese so I have no idea what it is.

Trying to add it again I get the message that the device is already “in a home” and I have to reset it for another attempt. I’m still not sure how I’m managing to reset it, the 10 second hold doesn’t seem to clear the Homekit binding, I’ve tried hitting the button 10 times, not sure that works either, if I keep doing those things and restart it a few times then it seems to reset. However … the next pairing attempt fails again.

So I can’t add it to Aqara app, I can’t add it to Homekit and I have issues reliably resetting it.

Hello, you need to change your server to China Mainland and sign in on another region. It’s the only way.

Strange. I asked support this exact thing; whether it being a China device mattered. They constantly said no.

Also why would this affect HomeKit? Adding to HomeKit is a totally local process (as far as I know) for which you don’t even need to use the aqara app and you can just add by scanning the HomeKit code. Not even sure you need the aqara app on your phone for that.

Have you tried to use Home app to add it directly? It can be added to HomeKit without Aqara Home app
