I’ve been on a journey to integrate multiple Z-Wave devices into my Vera Plus system, and it’s been quite an adventure. Let me share my experiences and some tips I’ve picked up along the way.
Initially, I faced some issues with adding devices using Smart Start. The logs showed errors like ‘NWI Home ID not found in provisioning list,’ which was perplexing. After some research, I discovered that excluding the device properly before re-including it was crucial. I also found that using the latest firmware for Vera Plus and ensuring all devices were up-to-date helped resolve many connection problems.
Another challenge was configuring the Evolve LCD1 controller. The plugin updates have been fantastic, but I had to tweak some settings manually. For instance, adjusting the tap-and-hold events to suit my routines took some trial and error. The plugin’s ability to handle multi-tap actions and LED modes is impressive, but it does require a bit of setup.
One thing I’m still experimenting with is the integration of HomeSeer devices. The GenGeneric Scene Controller Plugin has added a lot of functionality, but I’m still figuring out how to optimize the LED modes for different scenarios. The ability to control up to five devices with a single tap is a game-changer, but it needs careful configuration to avoid conflicts.
I also wanted to mention the importance of logging and debugging. When things go wrong, having detailed logs is invaluable. I’ve learned to check the LuaUPnP logs and use the debug versions of plugins to pinpoint issues. Sending these logs to the plugin developers has led to some quick fixes and improvements.
For anyone looking to integrate multiple brands or devices, my advice is to take it step by step. Test each device individually before adding them all at once. Also, don’t hesitate to reach out to the community for help. The support I’ve received has been incredible, and it’s made this journey much smoother.
Overall, while there are hurdles, the flexibility and power of Vera Plus and its plugins make it worth the effort. I’m excited to continue exploring and enhancing my smart home setup!
