Chore Helper Integration: A Game-Changer for Home Automation

I’ve been absolutely thrilled with the Chore Helper integration in Home Assistant! It’s truly a game-changer for automating and managing household chores. I’ve been using it for a while now, and it’s been incredibly stable and reliable for me. Here’s a quick rundown of why I love it so much!

Key Features That Blow My Mind

  1. Versatile Scheduling: Whether you want to schedule chores every N days, weeks, months, or even years, this integration has you covered. Plus, you can manually trigger chores via automation, making it incredibly flexible.
  2. Customizable Notifications: The integration creates a calendar of due dates, which is perfect for keeping track of upcoming tasks. You can even hide chores from the calendar if you prefer a cleaner view.
  3. Overdue Task Tracking: Chores never complete automatically, which means you can easily see if a task is overdue. This has been a lifesaver for keeping our household on track!
  4. Integration with Other Services: I’ve been using Auto Entities to create filtered cards of chores, which allows me to tap and complete a chore directly from my dashboard. It’s incredibly seamless!

How I Use It in My Home

I’ve set up a variety of chores using this integration, from the mundane to the essential:

  • “Mow the Lawn” is scheduled every 2 weeks, only on Saturdays, and only between April and November.
  • “Change the HVAC Filter” is linked to a contact sensor on our filter cover, which automatically marks the chore as complete when the sensor is triggered.
  • “Pay Bills” is triggered via automation when I receive a bill notification email.

Tips and Tricks

  • Use Icons for Visual Cues: Assign different icons to chores based on their status (e.g., a clock for upcoming tasks, a checkmark for completed ones). It makes the dashboard much more intuitive!
  • Combine with Other Integrations: If you’re using Grocy or another inventory management system, you can create a seamless workflow by linking chores to specific items or tasks.

Looking Forward

I’m excited about the upcoming features the developer has planned, like optional due times and chore assignments. I’d love to hear your thoughts on these ideas or any other features you’d like to see!

If you haven’t tried the Chore Helper integration yet, I highly recommend giving it a shot. It’s transformed how we manage chores in our home, and I can’t imagine going back to the old ways!

Happy automating! :rocket:
