Christmas is just around the corner, and I’m so excited to share my latest project with the community! This year, I decided to take my Christmas light setup to the next level by integrating it with my Vera controller. It’s been a fun and challenging process, but the results are absolutely stunning!
I started by purchasing two sets of Phantasy Pro lights and a variety of other Christmas lights to create a vibrant display. My goal was to automate the lights using my Vera system, allowing me to control them remotely and set up timed schedules. I’ve been experimenting with different configurations, and I must say, the Vera controller has made this much easier than I initially thought!
However, I did run into a few hiccups along the way. For instance, I struggled with adding some devices to my Vera 2 system, especially those that required battery-powered dongles. After some research and trial and error, I managed to find a workaround by using a combination of Vera’s built-in features and some external adapters. It’s been a great learning experience!
Another thing I wanted to share is my experience with Alexa and its playlist functionality. I created a custom playlist for my holiday celebrations, but I noticed that Alexa was only playing a few songs before stopping. After some digging, I realized that the playlist wasn’t looping correctly. I reached out to the community for help, and someone suggested checking the playlist settings and ensuring that the loop feature was enabled. It turned out to be a simple fix, and now my playlist loops perfectly!
I’d also like to mention the Broadlink devices I’ve been working with. I installed a Broadlink RM Pro hub and a Broadlink TC2 switch panel to control my lights and fan. While the setup was mostly smooth, I encountered an issue where the on/off commands weren’t being received. After some troubleshooting and consulting the forums, I found that the problem was related to signal interference. I adjusted the placement of my devices, and everything started working like a charm!
One thing I’m particularly proud of is how I integrated my Christmas lights with my daily routines. I set up automations so that the lights turn on as soon as it gets dark, and they dim slightly when I’m not home. It’s such a convenient way to keep the festive spirit alive without constantly fiddling with switches!
I’d love to hear from others who have integrated their Christmas lights into their smart home setups. What tools and techniques have you found most useful? I’m always looking for new ideas to enhance my setup!
Happy holidays to everyone, and here’s to a bright and automated Christmas season! ![]()
