Cleaning Up Home Assistant's Entity Registry and DIY Solutions

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a fantastic solution I recently discovered for cleaning up the entity_registry.yml file in Home Assistant. If you’ve ever added and removed a lot of devices, you know how cluttered this file can get with old, unused entries. I stumbled upon a handy script that automates this tedious task using PHP. It cross-references the currently used entities from the api/states endpoint and removes the unnecessary ones. I was able to clean up almost a hundred items! It’s a lifesaver for keeping your setup organized and efficient. Learn more about the script here if you’re interested. :tada:

On another note, I’ve been exploring DIY solutions for integrating legacy devices into my smart home setup. A friend mentioned the IntesisHome module for their AC, but at 245 euros, it’s quite pricey. I’m curious if anyone has tried a DIY alternative, similar to the Nest thermostat hack by @DrZzs. The AC in question has a 3-wire setup (red, white, black), so I’m wondering if there’s a way to repurpose existing components or find a more affordable module. Any tips or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Lastly, I wanted to touch on the recent updates for VeraMate 5. The UI changes have been a bit of a learning curve, but I’m really excited about the potential for customizing device icons and gaining more control over Vera configurations. It’s great to see the community coming together to refine these features. If anyone has feedback or suggestions, I’d love to hear them! Let’s keep pushing the envelope for smarter home automation! :rocket:
