I’ve always been fascinated by how smart home technology can blend functionality with creativity. Recently, I decided to take on a fun DIY project that combines both—creating a mood globe that changes colors based on my mood or the time of day!
The idea came to me while browsing through some smart home forums. I saw someone mention using Govee bulbs for customizable lighting, and it sparked an idea. Why not create a standalone mood globe that I could control through my smartphone or voice commands?
Here’s what I did:
-
Materials Needed: I used a 200mm glass dome, a 100mm ceiling light holder, and, of course, one of the Govee bulbs. The bulb was perfect because it’s compatible with both Alexa and Google Assistant, allowing me to control the color and brightness remotely.
-
Assembly: Mounting the light holder inside the glass dome was straightforward. I made sure the bulb was centered to ensure even lighting distribution. The glass dome not only gives it a sleek look but also diffuses the light beautifully.
-
Setup: Pairing the Govee bulb with my smart home system was a breeze. I set up custom routines in the Govee app to change the color based on the time of day. For example, warm tones in the evening and cooler tones during the day. It’s amazing how much this little project has transformed my living room!
-
Customization: I also integrated it with my existing smart home setup. Now, when I say, “Hey Google, set the mood to relaxing,” the globe shifts to a soft lavender hue. It’s the perfect way to unwind after a long day.
This project has been a fantastic way to experiment with smart lighting and add a personal touch to my home. If you’re looking for a fun weekend project that combines creativity and technology, I highly recommend giving this a try!
Would love to hear if anyone else has similar projects or tips for enhancing home aesthetics with smart lighting!
