So, a while back, I set up a device tracker on my iPhone to monitor whether I’m at home or away. It’s super handy for automations, but I always thought it would be cooler if I could visualize this state change in a more dynamic way—like, actually see it on my wall or something. That’s when I got the idea to change the text color of the device tracker based on its state. Imagine: green when I’m home, red when I’m away. Simple, right? But getting it to work wasn’t as straightforward as I hoped.
At first, I tried some basic templating code, but the text stubbornly stayed black. I scoured the forums, played around with different syntaxes, and even reached out to some community experts. Turns out, the trick was using the right combination of templates and themes. Once I figured it out, it was like magic! Now, every time I walk in the door, the indicator turns a vibrant green, and when I leave, it subtly shifts to red. It’s such a small thing, but it adds this little touch of satisfaction to my daily routine.
