Command Retry Feature: Boosting Device Reliability

I recently stumbled upon the Command Retry feature in my hub settings, and it’s been a game-changer for my smart home setup! :tada: This feature is designed to enhance device reliability by resending commands if the device doesn’t respond as expected. It’s not a fix for mesh issues, but it’s incredibly effective for ensuring devices like switches, thermostats, and locks work seamlessly. How It Works: - The hub captures commands sent to specific devices and retries them up to 5 times if there’s no response. - Retry intervals vary by device type, ensuring optimal timing for different devices. - A backoff strategy delays each subsequent retry, preventing overwhelming the network. Supported Devices: - Switches, dimmers, blinds, thermostats, and locks. - Works with Z-Wave, Zigbee, and Matter devices directly connected to the hub. My Experience: I enabled Command Retry for my smart lock and dimmer switches. Initially, I was skeptical, but it quickly proved its worth. When my lock failed to respond during a retry, the hub sent a detailed log, helping me identify a mesh issue. Observationally, devices usually respond on the first or second retry, which gives peace of mind. Tips for Others: - Enable Command Retry for devices that are critical or frequently used. - Check live logs for retry details to troubleshoot persistent issues. - Pair this feature with regular mesh maintenance for optimal performance. This feature has significantly reduced frustration and improved the reliability of my smart home. If you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend giving it a shot! :rocket:
