Configuring Shelly Devices: A Step-by-Step Guide

Hey everyone,

I’m really excited to dive into the world of smart home automation, and I’ve been experimenting with Shelly devices lately. I’ve got a couple of Shelly 2.5 units, and I’ve managed to flash one with the latest Tasmota firmware. It’s been a fantastic learning experience, but I’m hitting a bit of a snag when it comes to integrating everything into Home Assistant.

So, here’s where I am: I’ve followed the instructions from this manual and got the Tasmota UI up and running. I’ve configured it to work as a roller shutter, which is exactly what I need. But now, I’m stuck on how to add this device to Home Assistant. I’ve heard that I need to modify the configuration.yaml file, but I’m not entirely sure how to proceed. Could someone who’s successfully integrated Shelly devices with Home Assistant share their setup? I’d really appreciate it!

Another thing I’m curious about is MQTT discovery. I’ve set up Mosquitto on my Raspberry Pi, and I’ve been publishing some test data to see if Home Assistant is picking it up. From the logs, it seems like everything is working fine, but I’m not seeing any new devices in the Home Assistant interface. Is there something I’m missing here? Maybe a configuration tweak or an additional step I haven’t taken yet?

On a different note, I’ve also been playing around with RGBW2 dimming functionality. I’ve got these RGBWW LED strips, and I’d love to have them only use the warm white LEDs when dimming via a wall switch. I’ve managed to set up a script in IoBroker that handles the state changes, but the dimming function is still affecting both RGB and warm white channels. Is there a way to isolate the dimming to just the warm white LEDs, or perhaps disable the internal dimming altogether and control it via IoBroker?

I’m really enjoying the journey of setting up my smart home, but these little hurdles are keeping me up at night. Any advice or tips from the community would be invaluable!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best regards,
Zohar
