Configuring Shelly Input Channels as Contact Sensors: A User's Journey

I recently came across a challenge while setting up my Shelly devices in OpenHAB 4.2.2. I wanted to use an input channel from a Shelly device as a contact sensor to monitor the open/closed status of a door or window. Initially, I tried linking the input channel to a contact item, but it didn’t update the item value—it stayed null. This was frustrating, but I decided to dig deeper and find a solution. After some research and experimentation, I discovered that the issue was with how the input channel was configured. By adjusting the settings in OpenHAB and ensuring the correct binding between the Shelly input and the contact item, I was able to get the status updates working seamlessly. It was a great feeling to finally see the contact item reflecting the actual state of the door! This experience taught me the importance of carefully reviewing device configurations and understanding how different channels interact within the system. If you’re facing similar issues, I recommend checking your bindings and channel configurations. Sometimes, a small tweak can make a big difference! If anyone has tips or alternative methods for configuring Shelly devices as contact sensors, I’d love to hear them. Let’s share our experiences to help each other create more efficient and reliable smart home setups! :rocket:
