Connecting devices to Both Aqara app & Home Assistant

I know that with WiFi connected devices (such as the FP2 presence sensor) you can have the same device simultaneously connected to both the Aqara app and Home Assistant, but is it possible to do the same with Aqaras Zigbee connected devices (such as the radiator valves)?

You can use the Matter or HomeKit integration in Home Assistant. This way, you’ll be able to control your device in both ecosystems at the same time. For this setup, you’ll need an Aqara hub.

Hi. Can you explain some more on the matter integration with home assistant? We are not an Apple house and Aqara is the last system I have to bring into Home Assistant which would be a game changer for me.

Ah ok, so would that be running on Thread then? Whilst I have an iPhone I don’t use HomeKit.

I’ve already got a Zigbee network running on my Home Assistant (in addition to a small Zigbee network that I have pretty much exclusively running my Aqara light switches in one room which is running one of the small Aqara USB hubs.).

I’m just looking into a good antenna option for my RP4 HA that can support both Thread and Zigbee.

I’m a Home Assistant user and have all my Aqara Devices connected directly via Zigbee. I only use the Aqara app for my camera.

Not sure I see a benefit of using both systems?

The only reason I was really looking at it is I’m looking at radiator valves and I know if you’re using them on radiators with upwards facing valves at the bottom that they recommend pairing it with the Aqara temp/humidity sensor and it natively uses that as it’s own temperature.

Whilst I can obviously use an external temperature sensor with Home Assistant to turn the valve on and off, I didn’t know if you could link it up so it sees an external thermometer as it’s own reading.

As I mention above, other than my Aqara light switches in one room, all my other Aqara gear is exclusively connected to Home Assistant via Zigbee (Other than my FP2 sensor which uses WiFi and have it connected both to HA and the Aqara app).

Not something I am familiar with, but will investigate at home.

Radiator valve is fairly new to my setup, and I haven’t added external temperature sensor at the moment but will give it a try using Zigbee / Home Assistant.

For me, I would prefer it to use the Zigbee and not rely on Home Assistant.

How do you mean you’d prefer to use Zigbee and not rely on Home Assistant?
Zigbee is just a connection method (like WiFi). I have my devices connected to Home assistant using a Zigbee antenna.

From my experience, Yes, this should be possible. I have my E1 Thermostats connected both with the app as with the Home Assistant. You can do it via Matter or the Aqara Integration
