I’ve recently embarked on a journey to automate my home lighting system, and I must say, it’s been both exciting and a bit challenging. I’ve installed Cooper Aspire RF dimmers throughout most of my house, and they’ve been working flawlessly so far. However, as I look to enhance my setup with scene/zone control keypads, I’ve encountered a few hurdles that I’d love to share and get some advice on.
I’ve been researching the Leviton VRCZ-MRZ keypad, which seems promising for controlling the load of an existing switch without needing to add a new switchbox. But I’m curious about its compatibility with my Cooper Aspire devices. Does anyone have experience integrating these two brands? And what about the Cooper Aspire RFWC5—are there any limitations I should be aware of?
Another thought I’ve had is about the potential popcorn effect when controlling multiple bulbs. I’ve heard that using Zigbee group messaging for scenes can help synchronize the dimming levels, which would be ideal for a smoother transition. I wonder if Hubitat supports this feature or if there are any workarounds.
In terms of my setup, I’ve been using OpenHAB on an Android tablet, and I’m still getting the hang of creating rules and sitemaps. A simple example I’m trying to achieve is having a PIR sensor trigger both a Z-Wave switch and an FS20 switch, with the lights staying on for about two minutes. I’m not entirely sure how to structure the rule for the timing aspect, so any guidance would be appreciated.
Overall, I’m really enjoying the process of customizing my smart home, and I’m grateful for the supportive community here. If anyone has tips or recommendations, I’d love to hear them!
