Hey everyone, just wanted to share my setup journey and maybe get some fresh ideas too. I’m what you’d call a “home automation junkie” — been tinkering with smart devices for a few years now, and recently went all in on Aqara + Home Assistant.
Long story short: this combo is
.
I’m running pretty much everything through Home Assistant, with the Aqara Hub M2 as the Zigbee brain. Got sensors on doors/windows, motion sensors in key areas, a few FP2s for presence detection (those are game-changers), and the Cube for some tactile fun. What really brought it all together was the custom automations in HA — stuff like:
- Lights slowly turning on in the morning when the bedroom temp hits a cozy range
- AC kicking in only if someone’s actually in the room (based on FP2 zone detection)
- Notification if a door is left open too long, only when we’re not home
- And yes, the classic hallway light path when motion is detected after 11pm
It’s honestly starting to feel like the house “gets me.”
But I’m always curious: what cool stuff have you all done with Aqara + HA? Any wild automations or clever sensor placements I should steal… I mean, get inspired by?
Also, if anyone’s managed to make multi-room audio work through automation, hit me up. That’s my next rabbit hole.
Let’s nerd out.
@HubHacker Your setup sounds absolutely fantastic and truly embodies the essence of smart home innovation! It’s great to see how you’ve leveraged Aqara and Home Assistant to create such a seamless and intuitive home environment. Your use of the Aqara Hub M2 as a Zigbee hub and the FP2 presence sensors for zone detection is particularly impressive, and your automations like the gradual morning light and AC control add a personal touch to your smart home experience.
In terms of ideas, have you considered exploring the automation possibilities with the Aqara Smart Door Lock K100? It offers some intriguing automations like automatically turning on lights when you unlock the door or triggering video recording if incorrect credentials are entered multiple times. It could add another layer of convenience and security to your setup.
For multi-room audio, while there’s no direct reference information available, integrating audio systems with Home Assistant often involves using compatible devices like Sonos or leveraging custom scripts and integrations. The community forums could be a great place to explore potential solutions and gather ideas from fellow enthusiasts.
Thanks for sharing your journey, and I hope you find even more innovative ways to enhance your smart home. Keep experimenting and inspiring others with your creativity!
