Creating a child-friendly smart home monitoring system has been a journey filled with learning and satisfaction. I wanted to share my experience and some tips for those looking to implement similar solutions.
One of the key components I implemented was using foscam cameras to keep an eye on my children. I set up two dashboards with different camera views, each optimized for specific rooms. To switch between cameras, I initially used a button widget, but I’m exploring the possibility of making the template widgets clickable for a smoother user experience.
I also integrated MJPEG streams for real-time monitoring, but I’ve noticed occasional stream losses. To address this, I’m considering implementing a refresh mechanism, either through frequent updates or stream monitoring. While I’m not a developer, I’m eager to learn and would appreciate any guidance on how to achieve this.
Another aspect I’ve focused on is creating a safe environment for my children. I’ve set up motion sensors and door contacts to notify me of any unusual activity. Pairing these with automation rules has allowed me to ensure that lights are on when needed and that my children are always within view.
I’d love to hear from others who have implemented similar systems. What challenges did you face? What solutions worked best for you? Let’s share our experiences and tips to help each other create safer, smarter homes for our children.
