Recently, I embarked on a fun and rewarding project to transform our living room into a multimedia haven, and I’d love to share my experience with you! ![]()

The Vision
I wanted to create a space where the whole family could enjoy movies, gaming, and relaxation. After some research, I decided to go with a View Sonic PX747-4K projector as the centerpiece. To complement it, I built a custom frame using 1x4 and 1x2 wood pieces, adding a lip for LED lighting. The screen itself was a 150" PRIME Day special with black backing, which I sourced during a sale. For lighting, I opted for the Govee Light Strip 2 Pro 10-meter kit, which I cut down to fit my needs. ![]()
The Setup
Mounting the Govee T2 camera behind a 3.1 soundbar was a clever way to integrate security without compromising on aesthetics. I aimed for a 130-inch viewable area, but I realized later that a 2-inch border would have been better for aspect ratio. Still, the result was stunning! ![]()
Challenges and Tips
One challenge was ensuring the LED lights were evenly distributed. I initially used a single strand for the entire screen, but I later realized that using smaller strands with more addressable segments would have provided a smoother look. If you’re planning a similar project, I highly recommend this approach! ![]()
The Outcome
The finished space is a hit with the whole family. The vibrant colors of the projector and the dynamic lighting from Govee make every movie night feel special. Plus, the kids love helping me tweak the settings and experiment with different lighting effects. ![]()
Next Steps
We’re planning to add some acoustic slats to the walls and install LED channel lighting in the ceiling when we repaint. It’s going to be a darker green theme, which I think will complement the tech setup beautifully. ![]()
This project was a fantastic way to spend quality time with my family while creating something we can all enjoy. If you’re thinking of doing something similar, I say go for it—you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve with a bit of planning and creativity! ![]()
Has anyone else undertaken a similar project? I’d love to hear about your experiences and tips! ![]()
