Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking about how to make our smart home more engaging for our kids, especially my 3-year-old daughter who loves changing the colors of her room lights. She absolutely adores using the Homey app on my phone to switch between different colors, but of course, she’s too young to use a smartphone herself. So, I’m brainstorming ways to create a simple, kid-friendly interface that allows her to change the colors herself without needing any technical know-how.
I was considering building or buying a ‘big button controller’ with different color options. Something that’s both safe and easy for her to use. Maybe even incorporating some fun sounds or visual feedback when she presses a button. I wonder if anyone has experience with similar setups or if there are existing devices that could work for this purpose.
Another idea I had was integrating some kind of voice control, where she could say the color she wants, and the lights would change accordingly. But I’m not sure how feasible that is with our current setup. I’d love to hear if anyone has successfully implemented something like this or has any tips on how to make it work smoothly.
On a related note, I’ve also been exploring how to automate certain routines in the house, like dimming the lights at bedtime or setting up a fun welcome sequence when we come home. It would be amazing if we could tie some of these routines into the color-changing system for an even more immersive experience.
I’m really excited to see how this project turns out and can’t wait to share the results with the community. If anyone has any suggestions or has tried something similar, I’d love to hear about it!
