After years of experimenting with various gadgets, I finally managed to create a multi-room audio system that truly impresses.
Here’s how I did it!
I stumbled upon some first-gen Chromecasts and a Cambridge Audio 540A amp in my drawer of gadgets. Initially, I planned to use a Broadlink RM4 for control, but then I noticed the A-BUS & incognito stickers and telecoms sockets on the amp’s back. This piqued my curiosity—could these be integrated into Home Assistant?
After some research and tinkering, I discovered that with the right setup, the Cambridge Audio 540A could indeed work seamlessly with Home Assistant. Pairing it with the Chromecasts allowed me to create a whole-home audio system that plays music throughout my house with just a few taps on my phone.
The process wasn’t without its challenges. I had to learn how to configure the A-BUS connections properly and ensure that all devices communicated smoothly with Home Assistant. But the result? Absolutely worth it!
Now, I can control the audio system from anywhere in the house using my phone or even my voice with Alexa. It’s been a fantastic way to enhance my home entertainment experience. If you’re looking to create something similar, I highly recommend exploring the integration possibilities with Home Assistant—it’s a treasure trove of customization options!
