Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with creating a strobe effect using Tuya smart bulbs. I’ve been experimenting with this for a while and thought it might be helpful for others looking to achieve a similar effect for parties or events.
Initially, I tried using the built-in Music Sync feature within the Tuya/Smart Life app. While it’s a neat feature, it didn’t quite meet my expectations for a true strobe effect. The flashing wasn’t fast enough, and I wanted something more intense and customizable.
After some research, I discovered that integrating Tuya bulbs with Home Assistant and IFTTT opened up a whole new world of possibilities. By setting up automations, I was able to create a strobe effect that’s both fast and consistent. Here’s a quick rundown of how I did it:
-
Integration with Home Assistant: I started by integrating my Tuya bulbs with Home Assistant. This allowed me to control the bulbs through scenes and automations, which is much more flexible than the app’s built-in features.
-
IFTTT Automation: I set up an IFTTT applet that triggers the strobe effect. This involved creating a scene in Home Assistant that rapidly toggles the bulb’s state, creating the strobe effect. The automation is triggered by a specific event, such as a button press or a scheduled time.
-
Adjusting the Frequency: To achieve the desired strobe effect, I experimented with the timing of the automation. Shortening the delay between state toggles increased the strobe’s intensity. I found that a delay of around 100ms worked perfectly for my setup.
-
Customizing the Effect: I also played around with color transitions to create a more dynamic effect. By cycling through different colors during the strobe, I was able to make the effect more visually appealing and suitable for various occasions.
This setup has been a hit at my place, and I’ve had a lot of fun experimenting with different variations. If anyone has tips or tricks for improving the strobe effect further, I’d love to hear them!
Cheers,
