Creating Multi-Step Flows in Homey: My Experience and Questions

I’ve recently started exploring the potential of Homey for my home automation setup, and I’m really excited about the possibilities it offers. One thing I’ve been trying to figure out is whether it’s possible to create a flow with multiple steps, and if so, how to do it effectively. Let me share my experience and some questions I have, in case anyone has insights or tips to share.

So, what I’d love to achieve is a flow that does the following: when a specific trigger is activated, it disables the alarm system, turns on the lights, waits for the front door to open, and then waits again for the front door to close before turning the alarm back on and switching off the lights. It sounds straightforward, but I’m not entirely sure how to structure this in Homey. Is there a way to incorporate these multiple steps and conditional waits within a single flow? Or do I need to break it down into separate flows and link them somehow?

I’ve tried experimenting with the flow editor, adding different actions and triggers, but I’m not quite getting the desired result. For instance, I can disable the alarm and turn on the lights when the trigger is activated, but integrating the waiting periods based on the front door’s status is proving a bit tricky. I’m wondering if there are specific sensors or devices that work better for this kind of scenario or if there’s a particular configuration that I’m missing.

Another thing I’m curious about is how reliable these multi-step flows are in the long run. Have other users experienced any issues with flows becoming unstable or not responding as expected after multiple uses? And if so, what steps did you take to troubleshoot or improve their performance?

I’d also love to hear about any best practices or tips for organizing complex flows. Should I keep each step separate for clarity, or is there a more efficient way to nest actions within a single flow? And are there any limitations to the number of actions or triggers I can include before the flow becomes too cumbersome?

Overall, I’m really enjoying the process of learning how to customize my home automation setup with Homey, but there’s definitely a learning curve when it comes to creating more advanced flows. If anyone has experience with similar setups or can offer some guidance, I’d be grateful for the advice!

Looking forward to hearing from the community and learning more about the possibilities with Homey!
