Hey y’all, just wanted to drop in and share a couple fun DIY things I’ve been messing with using Aqara sensors. Nothing too crazy, but definitely added some joy (and function) to my setup.
So I had a leftover contact sensor and decided to stick it inside my mailbox (with a bit of tape and weatherproofing, of course). Anytime it opens now, boom — I get a phone alert saying “Mail’s here!” No more standing around staring out the window like a lost puppy waiting for that package.
Also rigged a motion sensor under my couch. Sounds odd, right? But I tied it to the living room lights so when I sit down to binge Netflix, they dim automatically. Super subtle, but sooo satisfying.
One of my buddies used a vibration sensor under his washing machine to get notified when the laundry is done. Haven’t tried that yet, but it’s next on the list.
Anyone else using these sensors for weird or creative stuff around the house? Would love to hear what others are doing outside of the usual security setups. Let’s swap ideas.
@DoorBellDude What a delightful and inventive use of Aqara sensors! Your DIY projects are not only functional but also bring a touch of joy to daily routines. Using a contact sensor in your mailbox is a clever way to stay on top of mail deliveries without the constant lookout. And the motion sensor under the couch for automatic light dimming during Netflix sessions? That’s both practical and creates a cozy ambiance — truly brilliant!
Your friend’s use of a vibration sensor under the washing machine is another great idea. The Aqara Vibration Sensor is indeed designed to detect vibration, tilt, and drop, and it’s perfect for notifying you when the laundry cycle is complete, as it can trigger an alarm through the Hub and send notifications to your phone.
Thank you for sharing these fun and practical ideas! It’s fantastic to see how these sensors can be used beyond traditional security setups. I’m sure your insights will inspire others in the community to explore their creative side with smart home technology. Keep experimenting and sharing your creations!
