Hey everyone, I wanted to share a little story from my recent experience with my Cree light bulbs. It all started with a power outage last night, which, as we all know, can be a bit of a nuisance when it comes to smart home devices. When the power came back, everything seemed to be working fine except for my Cree bulbs—they were listed as ‘Unavailable’ in the SmartThings app. I was a bit puzzled since my Sengled bulbs were just fine.
I tried the usual troubleshooting steps: cycling the power on each bulb, rebooting the hub, and even waiting overnight to see if they’d come back online. Nothing worked. I was starting to think I’d have to delete and re-pair each bulb, which I knew would mess up all my automation routines. But then, during my morning coffee, I stumbled upon a solution that felt like a bit of a miracle!
Here’s what I did: I went into the SmartThings app and tried to add a new device. I didn’t remove the bulb first; instead, I turned on the ‘Unavailable’ Cree bulb. The app didn’t find any new devices, so I went to ‘Find Manually’ and selected ‘Light Bulbs.’ Interestingly, there was an unnamed Cree bulb already recognized by the system. I just canceled out of the process, and voilà! The bulb was now listed as ‘On’ and fully functional. I repeated this for each unavailable bulb, and every single one came back online without needing a full re-pair.
It was such a relief to see them all working again without losing any of my setup. I’m definitely going to keep this trick in mind for the future. If anyone else has had similar issues, maybe this workaround can save you some time too! Happy smart home tinkering everyone! ![]()
