Custom Automation Ideas Using Aqara Motion Sensors in Everyday Life

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share a few ways I’ve been using Aqara motion sensors lately that have seriously made life smoother at home. I’m still kind of new to smart home setups, but these little sensors have been game changers.

One of my fav automations is in the hallway — motion after sunset turns on dim lights so I’m not blinded during late-night bathroom trips. Not groundbreaking, but you don’t realize how much of a blessing it is till you have it.

Another one I’ve set up is in my kitchen. Sensor detects motion between 6-8am, it turns on the coffee machine and plays a chill playlist. It’s like the house knows I need help waking up.

Tried one in the laundry room too. Light turns on if motion is detected AND the washer is running — saves me fumbling around in the dark doing late loads.

I hooked them all into my Home Assistant setup, which gave me way more control. Honestly, didn’t expect to get this far but once I got started it was hard to stop tinkering.

Curious to hear — how are you all using your motion sensors? Got any cool or weird creative setups? I’m looking for ideas to try next.
