Hey everyone,
Just wanted to drop in and share a few of my favorite Aqara automations that genuinely changed how my home feels. I’m definitely more of a smart home enthusiast than a pro, but these little tweaks made everyday stuff way cooler (and way lazier, hah).
-
Welcome Home Vibes
When I open the door (thanks to my Aqara Door Sensor), the lights in the hallway and living room turn on, and my Sonos kicks off my “chill after work” playlist. Doesn’t matter if it’s day or night — I use a light sensor to adjust brightness accordingly. Super simple, but it feels kinda magic. -
Morning Wake-up Ninja Mode
Bedroom curtains slowly open at 7:00AM if the motion sensor picks up I’m not moving around by then. It lets the sunlight in and kind of forces me out of bed gently instead of that dreaded alarm. -
Laundry Done Alert
Put a vibration sensor on the washing machine. When it stops shaking, I get a push notification. No more forgetting the laundry for 6 hours. -
Nighttime Bathroom Assist
Motion sensor under the bed activates an LED light strip that leads to the bathroom — but only between 11PM and 6AM, and at low brightness so it doesn’t blind me. My wife was super impressed with this one. -
Fridge Door Left Open? Nope.
Stuck a door sensor on the fridge door. If it’s open for more than 90 seconds, I get a beep on my phone. Ended up saving me a mini disaster during a hot week.
Honestly, once I got the hang of automations in the Aqara app (and a bit of tinkering in HomeKit), it became addictive. If anyone’s cooked up cooler or weirder setups, drop them below — I’m always looking for ideas to unnecessarily automate more things
Let’s hear your coolest “wait, a sensor did that?” moment.
