I recently encountered an issue with custom notification sounds on the Hubitat app for my Android device, specifically on my Pixel 7 running Android 15. After reinstalling the Hubitat app, I noticed that I couldn’t set a custom sound for notifications, which was a feature I heavily relied on. This was a bit frustrating, especially since I wanted a unique sound to differentiate Hubitat notifications from others.
After some research, I discovered that Android 15 has changed how notification sounds are managed. It seems that Google now allows custom sounds per notification category, but the Hubitat app doesn’t define any notification categories. This meant I couldn’t assign a custom sound directly. I was a bit stuck, but I decided to explore further.
One solution I stumbled upon was deleting the ‘Pixel 7’ device in Hubitat and then reinstalling the Hubitat app again. This process reconnected the app to my phone, and after receiving one notification, I could finally see the notification category. From there, I was able to change the sound to my preference. It was a bit of a workaround, but it worked!
This experience taught me the importance of checking app settings and device connections when facing issues. It also highlighted how sometimes a simple reinstall or device reset can resolve unexpected problems. I’m glad I didn’t give up and was able to find a solution on my own. If anyone else is struggling with similar issues, I hope this helps!
