Custom Touch UI for Wall-Mounted Tablets: A Creative Journey

As I embarked on creating a custom UI for wall-mounted tablets, I wanted to share my experience and insights with the community. My goal was to design an interface that’s both functional and visually appealing, tailored specifically for home automation control. I chose the affordable Kindle Fire tablets as the base, aiming to keep costs low while maximizing usability. The design process began with the AdminLTE dashboard template, which provided a solid foundation for the layout. I incorporated Vue.js for the frontend, despite my reservations about JavaScript, and set up a backend using PHP. While the code is still a bit messy, I’m committed to refining it over time. The challenge was balancing simplicity with functionality. I wanted the interface to be intuitive enough for everyday use but robust enough to handle complex automation tasks. The result is a UI that integrates seamlessly with my home automation setup, offering a centralized control panel for lights, climate, and security. I’m excited to share this project and eventually release the code on GitHub for others to explore and contribute to. It’s been a rewarding journey, and I look forward to seeing how the community can build upon this foundation. If anyone has suggestions or wants to collaborate, please reach out—I’m always eager to learn and improve!
