I’ve been using the Nest Learning Thermostat for quite some time now, and while it’s a fantastic device, there’s one feature that’s been bugging me: the filter change reminder. I’ve noticed that the interval is set to 1,000 hours by default, but I’m wondering if there’s a way to customize this. After all, not everyone lives in the same conditions. For instance, if you have multiple pets, suffer from allergies, or live in a dusty environment, the filter might need changing more frequently. I’ve tried reaching out to Nest support a few years ago, but nothing has changed since then. It seems like such a simple fix, yet it’s still an issue.
I’ve also come across some discussions about the Zehnder ComfoAir filter runtime. Users mentioned that after upgrading to version 2.5, the feature to translate hours into weeks for filter maintenance was lost. This is something I’d love to see brought back, as it makes scheduling filter changes much easier. If anyone has a workaround or a rule they’ve created to handle this, I’d be grateful for the insight.
Another thing I’ve been curious about is the runtime of filters in general. I’ve heard that higher MERV-rated filters can clog faster, which might affect airflow. It would be helpful if there was a way to monitor this more closely or adjust the reminder interval based on the filter type. I’m hoping Nest or other thermostat manufacturers might consider adding this functionality in future updates.
Overall, while these are minor issues, they do impact the user experience. I’m optimistic that with some feedback and community input, these features could be improved or reintroduced.
