I recently expanded my smart home setup from just Philips Hue to include a Homey controller. However, I’ve run into some issues with the Hue lights not working as reliably as I’d like. When I tried connecting them directly through the Philips Hue Zigbee app, the performance was inconsistent. For example, a flow that triggers six lights in the same room only worked for four of them, and this inconsistency varied each time. When I switched to using the Hue bridge, the commands worked, but there was a noticeable delay. In a setup with a motion detector and a Hue light, the light would take anywhere from 1 to 5 seconds to turn on, which is frustrating, especially for nighttime routines where the lights seem to lag behind my movements.
I’ve reached out to a Facebook group, and many people mentioned they don’t experience such delays when using the Hue bridge. So, I’m wondering if there’s a way to troubleshoot or debug the Zigbee setup more thoroughly. Are there any apps or tools that can provide detailed logs, timestamps, or error messages? I’d love to see connection strengths or identify any mesh issues that might be causing the delay.
While I’d prefer to use the direct Zigbee connection to eliminate the need for the Hue bridge, I’m open to using the bridge if it means getting rid of the delay. I’ve also considered switching to Lifx or other alternatives, but I’d rather resolve the issue with Hue first. Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
