Detecting Presence on Sofa for Smart Lighting Control

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some creative solutions to enhance my home automation setup. I have a sofa in a bay window area, and I’d like to control infrared panels above it in a smart way. The goal is to turn the panels off when no one is sitting on the sofa, and on when someone is present.

I initially thought of using a Xiaomi motion sensor, but it has a limitation where it turns off after a period of inactivity, which could be inconvenient. I’m curious if there’s a more reliable device or method to detect whether someone is sitting on the sofa.

Maybe a pressure sensor integrated into the sofa cushion could work? I’m not sure about the availability of such devices or how to integrate them with my existing smart home setup. Alternatively, could a camera-based solution with privacy settings be a viable option?

I’d love to hear your thoughts or any experiences you’ve had with similar projects. Let’s brainstorm together! :rocket:
