I’m excited to share my latest smart home project and seek some expert advice from the community! I’m planning to install a single dimmer switch to control three separate bulbs, each with its own switch. The setup is a 3-gang switch in one box, which is a bit tight for wiring, but I’m determined to make it work.
My goal is to use the dimmer switch to adjust the brightness of all three bulbs simultaneously via my smartphone or Home Assistant app. However, I want to keep the physical switches for turning the lights on and off. Essentially, the dimmer would be unaware of the state, and I’d rely on the physical switches for basic on/off functionality.
I’ve come across some information suggesting that it’s possible to leave the dimmer switch inputs unconnected and instead connect the physical switches to the dimmer output. But I’m not entirely sure if this is feasible or if there are any potential issues I should be aware of. For instance, could this setup cause any unexpected behavior or compatibility problems with Home Assistant?
I’d greatly appreciate any insights or tips from those who have successfully implemented a similar setup. Are there any best practices or common pitfalls I should consider? I’m eager to hear your experiences and advice to ensure this project goes smoothly!
Looking forward to your feedback and sharing this journey with the community!
