DIY Alarm System with Kerui Components: A Comprehensive Guide

As a homeowner passionate about security, I’ve always been on the lookout for a reliable home alarm system that doesn’t break the bank. After some research, I stumbled upon the Kerui Wireless Alarm system, which seemed to tick all the boxes. Here’s how I set it up and what I’ve learned along the way!

My Setup

I decided to go with the following components:

  • J008 Outdoor Wireless Siren/strobe
  • J009 Indoor Wireless Siren/strobe
  • F8 Transmitter
  • RC531 Remote

These units operate on the 433MHz frequency, which is great because it doesn’t rely on Wi-Fi. I wired the F8 transmitter directly to the GPIO pins of my Raspberry Pi (RPi). To trigger the transmitter, I added a GPIO switch inside Home Assistant. This setup allows me to control the sirens through my automations.

Features I Love

  1. Backup Batteries: Both the indoor and outdoor sirens have internal backup batteries. When powered, they charge these batteries, ensuring they’re ready to go in case of a power outage.
  2. Loud Outdoor Siren: The outdoor siren is incredibly loud, which is exactly what I wanted for deterring intruders.
  3. Remote Control: The RC531 remote allows me to arm, disarm, adjust the volume, and trigger a panic mode. I even taught my Broadlink RM Pro these commands, so I can control the system via voice commands!

Challenges and Solutions

  • Distance: The system has a good range, but I had to ensure all components were within line of sight for optimal performance.
  • Indoor Siren Volume: While the indoor siren isn’t as loud as the outdoor one, it does have adjustable volume settings, which I found to be a good compromise.

Future Improvements

I’m considering adding a tamper switch to the outdoor siren for extra security. Additionally, I’d love to explore integrating this system with my existing smart home devices for a more seamless experience.

Final Thoughts

This setup has given me peace of mind knowing my home is well-protected. It’s cost-effective, easy to maintain, and fully customizable to suit my needs. If you’re looking to enhance your home security without overspending, I highly recommend giving the Kerui Wireless Alarm system a try!
