Hey everyone, I stumbled upon an interesting DIY project that I’d love to recreate using Hubitat. The original setup involved a homemade garage door monitor that used a buzzer, wireless relay, and keyfob to alert the user if the garage door was left open. It was a clever hack that worked well, but I want to modernize it with more professional components.
The system worked by using a magnetic door sensor connected to an Elk M1G relay board. When the door was open, the M1G sent signals to the keyfob, which then triggered the buzzer in the car. The range was about 75 yards, giving enough time to close the door before leaving the driveway. It was effective, but I’d like to replace the keyfob with something more integrated and reliable.
I’m curious if anyone has experience with similar setups using Hubitat. How would I go about replicating this functionality? I’d love to use a more modern approach, perhaps leveraging Hubitat’s rules engine and sensors. Maybe using a zwave or zigbee door sensor and triggering notifications or alerts through the Hubitat app?
I’d also appreciate any suggestions on how to handle the notifications without relying on the phone. Maybe using a smart speaker or an integrated buzzer system. Additionally, I’d like to ensure that the system is reliable and has a good battery life if it’s battery-powered.
If anyone has tips, resources, or similar projects they’d be willing to share, I’d be grateful! Let me know your thoughts.
