After struggling to find a gas detector compatible with my Homey setup, I decided to take matters into my own hands! Here’s how I created a budget-friendly natural gas leak detector for around €30. ![]()
I started by purchasing a gas leak detector from AliExpress. While it detects gas quickly and has a loud alarm with a strobe light, it uses a 433MHz transmitter, which isn’t reliable or supported by Homey. To solve this, I paired it with a Neo Coolcam door sensor (similar to Xiaomi sensors), which Homey can easily integrate.
The Setup:
- The gas detector triggers when it detects gas.
- The 433MHz signal from the detector activates the Neo Coolcam sensor.
- Homey receives the signal and triggers a flow to send me an alert and close the gas valve.
Why This Works:
- Reliable detection with the gas sensor.
- Seamless integration with Homey via the Neo sensor.
- Affordable solution for peace of mind.
I’m thrilled with how this project turned out and feel much safer knowing my home is protected. If you’re looking for a DIY gas detection system, I highly recommend this setup! ![]()
