Hey everyone, I wanted to share a fun DIY project I recently completed! I’ve been using smart smoke and CO detectors at home, but I couldn’t find a gas detector that works seamlessly with my Homey setup. So, I decided to create my own gas leak detector system for around €30. Here’s how I did it:
I ordered a gas leak detector from AliExpress that detects natural gas quickly and has a loud alarm with a strobe light. However, it uses a 433MHz transmitter, which isn’t reliable or compatible with Homey. That’s where the Neo Coolcam door sensor (and Xiaomi door sensors) came to the rescue!
I repurposed the door sensor to act as a bridge between the gas detector and Homey. When the gas detector detects a leak, it triggers the door sensor, which then sends a signal to Homey. From there, I set up a flow to send me an alert and even close the gas valve automatically!
The setup was a bit tricky at first, but once everything was connected, it worked like a charm. It’s been a great addition to my home security system, and I feel much more confident knowing my home is protected.
If anyone has questions or suggestions for improving this setup, I’d love to hear them! ![]()
