I just wanted to share my recent DIY Halloween setup and some tips I’ve picked up along the way. Halloween is always a blast, and this year I decided to go all out with some smart lighting and creative decorations. Let me walk you through it!
First off, I’ve been experimenting with Govee lights for a while now, and they’ve been a game-changer for my home decor. For Halloween, I created a spooky ambiance using their milk bowl lamps and some DIY color fades. The battery life on these things is incredible, especially when I switch on the battery saver mode. It’s perfect for outdoor settings where I don’t want to deal with frequent battery changes!
I also tried out some new DIY color fade effects that I found online. They’re super easy to set up and add a great mood to any room. I’ve included a few of my favorites below:

I even set up a few scenes that trigger based on motion sensors, so the lights change as people walk by!
Another thing I’ve been tinkering with is using Vera Lite for some basic automation. It’s been a bit of a learning curve, but I’ve managed to set up some cool routines using Bash scripting. For example, I have a script that turns on my outdoor lights when motion is detected and dims them after a few minutes of inactivity. It’s simple but effective!
