Hello everyone! I wanted to share my recent DIY lighting project using the Govee RGBIC Pro LED Strip Lights. It’s been a fantastic way to add some personality to my home while experimenting with smart lighting solutions. Here’s how it all came together!
Project Overview
I decided to upgrade my living room lighting by adding RGBIC strips to create a dynamic ambiance. The goal was to combine functionality with aesthetics, ensuring the lights could be easily controlled via my smartphone and integrated into my existing smart home ecosystem.

Installation Process
- Planning the Layout: I started by measuring the ceiling to determine where to place the crown molding. The key was to position the lights about an inch from the wall to create a subtle, elegant effect.
- Cutting and Drilling: Using a circular saw, I cut the PVC molding to fit the ceiling. Pre-drilling screw holes every 18 inches ensured the molding wouldn’t sag and helped prevent light leakage.
- Mounting the Molding: I carefully attached the molding to the ceiling, ensuring it was level. This step required some patience to get everything aligned perfectly.
- Installing the LED Strips: The Govee strips were easy to install. I adhered them to the underside of the molding and connected them to my smart home hub using the Govee app.
- Testing and Customization: Once everything was in place, I used the Govee app to test different color settings and brightness levels. It was amazing to see how the lights transformed the room!
Challenges and Solutions
One challenge I faced was ensuring the lights were evenly distributed. I solved this by using a level and measuring tape to space the molding evenly. Another consideration was preventing any light spill, which I managed by using black electrical tape on the unseen side of the molding.
