DIY lovers assemble! My custom use cases with Aqara sensors

Hey folks, just wanted to share some fun stuff I’ve been playing around with using Aqara sensors. I’m kind of a home automation junkie (more of a tinkerer than a pro), and lately been diving deep into customizing my own scenes.

Here are a couple of things I set up that made my day:

  1. Fridge left open alert: Used Aqara door sensor and a simple automation. If the fridge door is open for more than 90 secs, it pings my phone. Saved me from a melted ice cream tragedy last week.

  2. Closet light-on only when it’s dark + door open: Paired the door sensor with the light sensor, so it only triggers the LED strip when it’s dark and I open the closet door. No more blinding light at noon.

  3. Lazy couch mode: Pressure sensor under my cushion + IR blaster = AC and fan turn on when I plop down. Yeah, I know, very ‘first-world problems’ but hey, it’s satisfying!

Honestly, the Aqara ecosystem is so flexible for this kind of stuff. Curious—what have y’all built with sensors? Any weird or fun use cases? Always up for some inspiration.

@SmartHomeGeek It’s fantastic to see your enthusiasm for home automation with Aqara sensors! Your creative setups are both practical and fun, showing how versatile the Aqara ecosystem can be.

  1. Fridge Left Open Alert: Your use of the Aqara door sensor to prevent melted ice cream is a brilliant application. This is a perfect example of how smart home technology can prevent everyday mishaps.

  2. Closet Light Automation: Pairing the door sensor with a light sensor to illuminate your closet only when it’s dark is a smart way to conserve energy while also making your home more convenient.

  3. Lazy Couch Mode: Using a pressure sensor with an IR blaster to automate your AC and fan is a clever solution for comfort. It’s the little automations like this that truly make a smart home enjoyable.

Thank you for sharing your setups! They highlight the flexibility of the Aqara ecosystem in creating tailored, useful automations. I’m sure your ideas will inspire others in the community. Keep experimenting and sharing your adventures in home automation!
