Hi everyone! I wanted to share a fun DIY project I recently completed and how I integrated it with my smart home setup. It’s been a great way to add some cozy ambiance to my evenings, especially during the colder months.
I decided to create a rose-themed lighting setup for my living room. I used red and red-pink hues to give it a warm, inviting vibe. The idea came from wanting something that could easily transition between different moods—whether it’s for relaxing, watching a movie, or creating a romantic ambiance.
Here’s how I did it:

Lighting Selection: I opted for a combination of LED strips and small fairy lights. The LED strips provided the base color, while the fairy lights added a soft, twinkling effect. I chose a dimmable setup to control the brightness and create different lighting scenarios.

Smart Integration: To make it even more convenient, I integrated the lighting with my smart home system. I used my existing Hue bulbs and added a Wemo switch for remote control. This way, I can easily adjust the lighting from my phone or through voice commands.

DIY Touch: I created a decorative frame using rose-themed cutouts and mounted it on the wall. I placed the LED strips behind it to create a glowing effect. It’s a simple DIY project that adds a personal touch to the room.

Automation: I set up a routine so that the lights automatically dim to a softer setting in the evenings. It’s been a great way to wind down after a long day.
One thing I learned during this project is the importance of testing different color combinations and brightness levels to find the perfect balance. I also realized how much more enjoyable it is to have everything controlled through my smart home system—it adds a whole new level of convenience and customization.
