Hey everyone, I’ve been on a bit of a DIY kick lately, and I thought I’d share my latest project with you all. I’ve just come into possession of some older iPhones with terrible battery life, and I’ve been brainstorming ways to repurpose them. Enter the idea of setting them up as IP cameras to monitor both inside the home and out of a window. It’s a win-win—reducing waste and enhancing home security!
I’ve done a bit of research, and it turns out this is quite easily done, but I’d love to hear from others who’ve tackled similar projects. My main goal is to have these cameras work seamlessly with SmartThings, either showing up as devices in the app or triggering motion alerts under certain conditions, like when no one’s home.
So far, I’ve found a few iOS apps that seem promising, both free and paid options. I’m curious if anyone has had success with specific apps or if there are any hidden gems out there. I’d also love to hear about any challenges others have faced and how they overcame them.
