I’ve been absolutely thrilled with how my smart home journey has unfolded over the past year. It’s amazing how technology can transform everyday tasks into something truly convenient and even fun! Govee Decorations for the Holidays This year, I decided to take my holiday decorations to the next level with Govee’s customizable LED lights. I created a stunning display around my living room, using the Govee app to set up dynamic color patterns and animations. It’s incredible how these lights can completely change the ambiance of a room with just a few taps on my phone. My family and neighbors were blown away by the results, and it definitely added a magical touch to our holiday celebrations! 2. ESP32 and LVGL sauna control panel One of my most ambitious projects this year was building a custom sauna control panel using an ESP32 display and LVGL. I integrated a Dallas DS18B20 temperature sensor to monitor the sauna’s temperature in real-time. Initially, I faced some challenges with the display flickering whenever the sensor updated. After some research and experimentation, I discovered that separating the power supplies for the display and the sensor solved the issue. It was a great learning experience, and now I have a sleek, functional control panel that I’m incredibly proud of. 3. Automating My Washing Machine I recently shared a project where I automated my washing machine using power consumption monitoring. It started as a simple idea to address the issue of clothes staying in the machine for too long. By using a TP-Link HS110 smart plug, I monitored the power usage and created a Node-RED workflow to track the washing and drying cycles. The result? A system that notifies me when the cycle is complete, ensuring my clothes are always fresh and ready to be folded. It’s been a huge time-saver and has completely changed how I approach laundry day. 4. Fronius Integration with Apple Home Another success story I’d like to share is integrating my Fronius solar energy system with Apple Home. After some trial and error, I managed to include key sensors like battery state of charge and battery discharge into my HomeKit setup. It’s incredibly satisfying to see all my energy data seamlessly integrated into my smart home ecosystem, allowing me to monitor and manage my energy usage more effectively. These projects have not only enhanced my daily life but also reignited my passion for tinkering and innovation.
