DIY Smart Lighting Setup and My Experience

Hello everyone! I wanted to share my recent DIY project and experiences with setting up a smart lighting system. It’s been an exciting journey, and I hope my story can inspire others or provide some tips along the way. :grinning:

I started with the goal of creating a multi-light switch that could control multiple zones without looking complicated. I stumbled upon the Legrand RT2WCCV4 Timer Switch, which seemed perfect for my needs. After some research and reverse engineering, I managed to integrate an ESP8266 device into it. The process was a bit challenging, especially with the circuit configuration, but the result is a sleek, functional smart switch that blends seamlessly with my home decor.

During this project, I encountered a few hiccups. For instance, my Shelly Motion 2 battery wasn’t charging beyond 99%, which was a bit puzzling. After some troubleshooting, I realized it was a minor issue that didn’t affect its functionality. I also faced some connectivity problems with my Wyze cameras, which occasionally locked up. Thankfully, I found that resetting them and avoiding certain gestures helped stabilize their performance.

One thing I learned is the importance of community support. When I was stuck with the switch configuration, reaching out to forums and seeing others’ solutions was incredibly helpful. It’s amazing how sharing experiences can lead to such positive outcomes.

I also explored integrating my setup with Node-RED, aiming to create efficient flows for notifications, like alerting me if I leave the garage door open. While I’m still tweaking the logic, it’s been a great learning experience and has made my home smarter and more convenient.

Overall, my DIY project has been a rewarding endeavor. It taught me the value of persistence, creativity, and the importance of community in overcoming challenges. I’m excited to continue refining my setup and exploring new possibilities with smart home technology. Thanks to everyone who shares their knowledge and experiences—it truly makes a difference! :star_struck:
