DIY Smart Lock Sensor Solution - Success Story!

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a success story that I hope might inspire others or provide some ideas. For years, my wife has been paranoid about whether our front door was locked during the night. It was brutal for me to get out of a warm bed just to check! I considered switching to a smart lock, but our original 3-point lock system made that a nightmare. Then, I stumbled upon this sub and saw some creative solutions that sparked an idea. Finally, I decided to give it a shot—and it works like a charm! The setup was surprisingly straightforward: I used an Eufy entry sensor paired with mini magnet pieces and secured them with Gorilla Super Glue. The sensor is placed on the doorframe, and the magnet is attached to the door. When the door is locked, the magnet aligns perfectly with the sensor, and any movement triggers an alert. Bonus: Since this is a DIY hack using a product from a brand we already use, we can track the lock status from the same app without needing extra integration or setup. The only caveat I encountered was that the mini magnets have a weaker magnetic field compared to the ones that come with the entry sensor. It took a bit of trial and error to position them just right to avoid false positives. Overall, this solution has brought me peace of mind and eliminated the need for sleepless nights worrying about the door. I’d love to hear if anyone else has tried something similar or has additional tips to share!
