Hi everyone! I wanted to share a fun project I’ve been working on to integrate my standing desk into my smart home setup. It’s been a great way to keep track of my daily usage and tie it into my existing smart devices. I’d love to hear your thoughts and any tips you might have!
Project Overview:
I’ve always been interested in tracking my health metrics, including how much time I spend standing versus sitting. To make this happen, I decided to combine an ultrasonic sensor with ESPHome and a Aqara presence sensor. The setup allows me to monitor my desk usage throughout the day. While it was a bit challenging to get everything configured correctly, especially figuring out the right pinout for my sensor, it’s been worth it for the insights I’ve gained.
Integration with Smart Home:
One thing I’ve been exploring is how to tie this data into my broader smart home ecosystem. For instance, I’d love to create automations that adjust my desk height based on my typical routines or even integrate it with my HVAC system to ensure optimal comfort while working. If anyone has experience with similar setups or knows of any resources that could help, I’d be grateful for the guidance!
Tips for Others:
If you’re looking to embark on a similar project, I’d recommend starting with a clear plan of what you want to achieve. Take your time to research each component and how they can work together. Also, don’t hesitate to reach out to the community for advice—there are so many knowledgeable people here willing to help!
I’m really excited about the possibilities this project opens up and can’t wait to see how it evolves. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!
