Hey everyone! I’ve been really excited about diving into DIY projects to enhance my smart home setup. Recently, I came across an affordable and efficient way to create a smart switch compatible with ESPHome, and I wanted to share my experience with you all. I started by sourcing a basic Tuya-compliant smart switch from AliExpress, which cost around $2. The goal was to replace the original Wi-Fi board with an ESP-02 module, making it fully customizable for my needs. Here’s a quick rundown of the process: 1. Desoldering the Original Board: This was a bit nerve-wracking, but with patience, I managed to remove the existing board without damaging the switch itself. 2. Sourcing the ESP-02 Module: I found a pin-compatible ESP-02 module on the same platform, ensuring seamless integration. 3. Programming and Soldering: Using a standard USB-to-serial programmer, I programmed the ESP-02 with ESPHome firmware. Once everything was tested and working, I soldered it into place. 4. Configuration: I set up the GPIO pins for the relay and manual switch, ensuring smooth operation both locally and through the app. The best part? This setup now allows me to automate my lighting more effectively, reducing energy waste and enhancing convenience. It’s been a fantastic project, and I’m eager to explore more DIY solutions for my home. If anyone has questions or wants to share their own DIY experiences, I’d love to hear from you! Let’s keep the creativity flowing! ![]()
