DIY Smart Thermostat and LED Retrofit Experience

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into some exciting DIY projects lately, and I wanted to share my experiences and ask for some advice. First, I’ve been working on creating a custom thermostat setup without relying on cloud APIs. After watching a video from Dr. Zzs, I decided to go the DIY route using a Sonoff 4CH Pro 3 flashed with Tasmota. The goal was to control my central air unit with more flexibility and avoid the frustrations of API limits. I’ve managed to integrate temperature sensors and set up some automations, but I’m still tweaking the weighted average feature. If anyone has experience with similar setups, I’d love to hear your insights!

On another front, I’ve been working on retrofitting an old floor lamp with dimmable RGBW LEDs. The wiring access was a bit tight, but I managed to install new LED strips and a controller. I’d love to hear if anyone has recommendations for controllers that work seamlessly with Homey Pro. The results so far are fantastic, and it’s been a fun project to customize the lighting in my space.

I also wanted to ask about anyone’s experience with automation triggers. I’ve been using trigger IDs to manage different scenarios, but manually triggering the automation doesn’t behave as expected. It would be great to set a default trigger ID for manual runs to simplify testing and troubleshooting. Any ideas or workarounds would be appreciated!

Lastly, I’ve been exploring zigbee devices and setting up a curtain motor. I’m curious about the best practices for integrating zigbee devices with a Raspberry Pi and if there are any cost-effective solutions out there. If anyone has tips or resources, I’d be grateful!

Overall, these projects have been both challenging and rewarding. I’d love to hear how others have tackled similar tasks or if there are tools and techniques I might have missed. Happy tinkering everyone!
