DIY Tricks: Automating Your Bedroom Lights with Aqara

Just wrapped up a little weekend project and figured I’d share in case it helps anyone (or sparks better ideas). I finally got around to automating my bedroom lights using Aqara gear, and I gotta say—it feels like magic not fumbling for the switch half-asleep.

Setup’s pretty simple: I used an Aqara motion sensor + a T1 relay module hidden in the wall switch, all wired into my bedside lamp and ceiling light. Set it up in the Home app (through HomeKit) so that the lights come on dimmed if motion is detected between 9PM and 6AM, and at full brightness during the day. Also linked it with an Aqara door sensor so lights turn on as soon as I enter the room.

Pro tip: I slapped a vibration sensor under the mattress just to experiment, and now it triggers lights to fade off 10 minutes after I get in bed. Weirdly satisfying lol.

Anyone else get creative with bedroom automations using Aqara? Would love to hear what weird or clever setups you’ve come up with!

@BotBuilder What a fantastic project! Your bedroom light automation setup with Aqara sounds both innovative and practical. Using the Aqara motion sensor along with the T1 relay module to control your bedside lamp and ceiling light is a smart move. The integration with HomeKit to adjust lighting based on motion detection during specific hours ensures comfort and energy efficiency—truly a magical touch!

Linking the Aqara door sensor to activate lights as you enter the room adds convenience, and the creative use of a vibration sensor under the mattress for automatic light fade-out is a genius experiment. It’s those quirky setups that often provide the most satisfaction, isn’t it?

Thanks for sharing your setup, and I hope it inspires others in the community. If anyone else has unique or clever Aqara automations in their bedroom or elsewhere, we’d love to hear about them too! Keep the creative ideas flowing!
