Alright, so I’ve been slowly building out my smart home setup with a bunch of Aqara gear (sensors, switches, even a curtain motor), but in the past month, my motion sensor kept dropping off randomly. Super annoying when you’re trying to automate the hallway lights and they just stop working out of nowhere.
Turns out the issue was range — my Aqara Hub M2 was way too tucked in a corner near my TV stand (read: signal-blocking death zone). I went full DIY mode and tried a few random tricks, and shockingly, they worked:
- Moved the hub about 2 meters away from the router and away from big electronics. Immediate improvement.
- Got a simple USB extension cable and mounted the hub literally higher up on a bookshelf. Seems like even that small elevation helps with line of sight for Zigbee connectivity.
- Fun one — I printed a 3D “signal deflector” (basically just a curved plastic reflector behind the hub). Might be placebo, but it looks cool and since then no more drop-offs.
Anyone else tried weird tweaks like this? Wall-mounting? Antenna mods? I know we’re not working with Wi-Fi on Zigbee devices, but curious how others are squeezing every bit of signal strength.
